C4:
1984 - 1996
64 DEGREE RAKE. The C4 was introduced in March of 1983 as a 1984 model -- there
was no 1983 model year production Corvette.
The C4 brought an all new chassis and improvements in almost every detail:
improved visibility from the cockpit, improved aerodynamics, improved assembly
process, improved serviceability, and maximized interior space. Its
aerodynamically efficient 64-degree raked windshield was one of the steepest in
the automotive world. This was the first Corvette series to incorporate
electronic instrumentation and displays for engine monitoring and speed.
1986 marked the return of the Corvette convertible -- the first since 1975. For
a second time the Corvette was chosen as the Official Pace Car for the 1986
Indianapolis 500. In July 1992, the one millionth Corvette rolled off the
assembly line -- it was a white convertible with red leather interior just like
the original '53. A C4 Corvette paced the Indy 500 for a third time in 1995.
